AIM
St.Ives Free Health Foundation aims to provide FREE health care for individuals who are not presently covered by any forms of health scheme government or private.
Whatever the reasons, many of such individuals are known to us in our various walks of life. They are our relatives, neighbours, friends, acquitances. We meet and know them in our local churches, mosques, places of work and in our neighbourhood.
The ailments that usually incapacities and sometimes kill such individuals are basic health care issues which are easily treatable and preventable if they had access to quality healthcare services.
It is painful and unacceptable in this day and age to hear of deaths due to malaria typhoid, bacterial infections, childbirth, ulcers, hypertension, diabetes and other minor diseases that are easily diagnosed, prevented and treatable, just because of lack of finance, unemployment and or ignorance.
St. Ives Free Health Foundation works in partnership with benefactors which comprises of individuals philanthropists, other charitable organizations and corporate bodies.
These sponsors share in our vision, dream and commitment to privately help(without visible benefit) in giving free health care services to those who cannot otherwise afford it within our communities.
HOW IT WORKS
There are 3 components to how the FREE health scheme works:
1. THE HOSPITAL
The hospitals are well equipped, and fully stocked with drugs and personnel’s. (Nurses, doctors, lab scientist etc.) In readiness to provide FREE health care to all the beneficiaries on the scheme. Apart from the full time health personnel’s, volunteer specialist doctors have agreed to specific hours in rotation throughout the week free of charge to see to the specialist needs of the beneficiaries.
2. SPONSORS/ BENEFACTORS
The sponsor (individuals, corporate bodies, other charitable organizations) nominates a minimum of 10 beneficiaries openly or anonymously for the scheme. If the benefactors have one mind, the foundation helps to nominate beneficiaries on our list. We would furnish the benefactors the details of the sponsored beneficiaries if required. We would give regular feed back on the health of their beneficiaries.
The benefactor is expected to pay N1000 per person per month. The foundation ma maetches and exceed the amount depending on the health needs of the beneficiaries.
3. THE BENEFICIARIES
To the beneficiaries, their health care services is FREE. Their only obligation is to present themselves 24/7 to the hospital whenever they are ill and they would be treated FREE ( free consultation, free investigations, free access to specialist care where needed). How they get treated is the headache of the hospital the foundation and the benefactors.
INVITATION
The Scheme as has been played out can only run properly with willingly sponsors, hospitals and health personnel’s ready for work of mercy.
St. Ives Medical Centre (Opebi) has agreed for the usage of its staffs and facilities for the scheme. We have positive response from other well equipped hospital to be part of the scheme. Many Health Care Personnel’s from nurses to consultants have also volunteered their time to work free in conjunction with the free health scheme.
We request your partnership to sponsor the health needs of our fellow citizens who are less privileged to afford quality health care for them in a well equipped and staffed and staffed hospital. The cost is N10,000 for ten people per month.
We welcome comments and suggestions that will help the free health foundation to achieve its objective of providing FREE quality health care services to those that cannot otherwise afford it in our society.
